Summer Slam 5 Pictures
Wow it's been almost 7 years since the 1st summer slam held in Rosario Sports Complex. Technically it's going to be my 6th year as a Technical Director for the Summer Slam and the 5th year for PULP to hold the real production side of the event because for the first 2 years production outfits were outsourced then on the 3rd Summer Slam Vernon decided to hold the reigns altogether using his people to oversee everything which was a great move. It is also SQ's (Sound Qoncepts) 5th year as the major suppliers. Thanks Pongga, Doc for the Support.
and also Lina and Arnold of Powerplant for the Power all these years...
A brief history since I took over the technical side:
Summer Slam 2 (April 30,2002) was held in The Fort I used Sound Check spearheaded by Jaime Godinez for lights and sounds during this year we used a 16 per side JBL Array System with 20 JBL Front Loaded Subs and for side fills we had the turbo sound side fills (4 per side) which we lost in the middle of the show, a dual band setup and all of sound checks lighting supply was used/Stage Riggers spearheaded by Manny Enurable for the stage (60x40) and trusses/Exor for my power which was supplied by the events team of Evelyn Bosch. Jaime Wilson as the main stage manager with the help of Joey Dizon and Denise Mallabo of PULP. And of course Tonet Abrille as my lighting director and Mario Benapayo as my right hand man who helped me mix thru all those bands despite the chaos.
Summer Slam 3(April 30,2003) was brought over to Amoranto Stadium which has been the home of the PULP Summer Slam since then. I used 4 Sound Outfits (First Harmonics/RSL/PMX and of course SQ) "The EV Boys" to provide the lights and sounds (We had 8 EV x-arrays per side and a 4 box MT-2 system for sidefills on each side, and 16 EV MTL 1&2's subs in front of the stage /Stage Riggers was again my Truss and Stage Supplier (32x56 stage), and Power Plant took over the generator requirements. During that year I remember Vernon Go without a shirt taking over Production Manager duties and his internal team (Beaulah, Michelle, Manny, etc) taking care of the production duties of feeding the hordes of crew coming in and out setting up for the event round the clock. Jaime Wilson, Joey Dizon, and Denise Mallabo as stage managers and of course Tonet Abrille as the lighting director. On the board that year were different engineers from the different sound outfits and on monitors for the whole night was Vincent B (no assistant) really gutsy but he did a good job. By the way Rico Santiago and his men were tasked to keep the peace
Summer Slam 4(April 30, 2004) was again held in Amoranto. Sound Qoncepts finally took over as my major Sounds and Lights Supplier (System If I can remember was 12 per side EV X-array system with 16 MTL-1 Subs. 4 WSX Subs in front of the stage , a dual band setup monitor bay was used) Stage Riggers was in charge of stage and truss requirements spearheaded by Joel E. and Nandy. Power Plant provided the Power requirements. Ponga became my right hand man and the late Odin(who was also with Summer Slam 1) as my Main front of house man with me taking turns with him and Nino as my monitor engineer on stage with help of his assistant. That year it was Joey Dizon and Denise Mallabo who was assigned as stage managers. It was still (Vernon's team)Beaulah, Michelle, Manny, etc. keeping us full with a steady supply of food and H20 (Thanks Guys). For lighting duties Shax Siasoco took over. Again we had Rico Santiago and his team of macho men keep the peace.
Summer Slam 5(April 30,2005) we basically had the same team altogether. Oh yes! this was the year Jiboy took over Front Of House duties for his late brother Odin(RIP) who passed away the year before. It was really fun mixing with him. Nino still my Monitor guy. Sound Qoncepts was still my major light and sound supplier (12 per side X-array system was used, 22 subs MTL-1's and WSX was in front of the stage and a 6 box MT-2 system as a center delay cluster (which was my idea and had to suffer through it because it was really throwing us off)/Stage Riggers was again in charge of Trussing and Stage/Power Plant was the power masters as always. Joey and Denise the tag team stage managers. Beaulah, Michelle, Manny, etc. being the food masters. The rock icon Vernon Go being the master of everything. Rico Santiago and the Machos as the peace masters. and of course Shax Siasoco being the lighting director.
Summer Slam6 (April 29,2006) a major revamp happened as you can see thru the pictures. Sound Qoncepts took over as Sounds/Lights/ truss suppliers so we had an all aluminum truss setup pretty fancy stage roofing was a lot higher we used a combination of 12 per side JBL vertec speakers with the ever faith full EV X-array system(6 per side) and 24 Subwoofers a combination of JBL, MTL-1's a WSX right in front of the stage which really blasted me(Rock n' Roll Style). Best sounding slam if you ask me, but of course every year is something new and really have to add to keep up with the times. another thing last year we had the brightest stage so far 56 moving heads, 160 pars. For stage we welcomed Stageline who provided a 56x32 stage and kudos to you guys (Lito/Wendy esp.) for making the bridge thing work and safe/Power Plant was still the ever faith full power masters. Beaulah, Michelle, Manny, etc. provided the food and H20 as always. Butch Cruz took over lighting duties. Joey and Jason taking care of stage manger duties. and Rico Santiago and his team keeping the peace. Another break through we had was Jaggedy Ann the bar band from the US graced the Summer Slam stage making them the first international act we had for the slam
This year we have a lot of new additions but I don't want to pre-empt it so just watch out for it.
I would like to thank Doc and Tree Fingers for the pictures.
